LUKAVAC CEMENT PARTICIPATES IN THE “INCLUSIVE DECARBONISATION” PROJECT

In January, Lukavac Cement was visited by representatives of the UNDP Energy Sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who implement the IDA project. The purpose of the visit was the energy audit activities within this project.

What is the IDA project (“Inclusive Decarbonisation”) for which Lukavac Cement is selected as one of the 20 participating companies last year? It is funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH. This modality ensured technical and financial support in the implementation of decarbonisation investment projects for 20 companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thanks to the IDA project, Lukavac Cement implemented 4 projects for additional increase in energy efficiency:

  • energy management system (Energy management system – EMS)
  • expert system for rotary kiln
  • expert system for cement mill
  • utilization of the compressor station waste heat

The goal of the visit itself was a detailed insight into the implemented energy efficiency measures and the provision of guidelines and recommendations for future projects that will contribute to the decarbonisation of the production process at Lukavac Cement.

The purpose of implementing a set of activities within the IDA project is to provide support in the transition to low-carbon development by exploiting the potential of energy efficiency and technologies of renewable energy sources.
